Reflecion in Career Planning (Self-Evaluation)

What am I good at?

I am good at speaking. I believe that i have improved well in my speaking skills as now, I am able to speak with confidence and tend not to panic often. I am able to bring up myself in a crowd and speak up. After several encouragement and motivation from my fellow friends and school teachers, I am now able to raise up my opinion or suggestions in a group or a crowd as well. I 'm no longer afraid of what would people think of my opinion or how would my opinion be accepted.I've learned to be open towards peoples comments or correction as I believe that everyone is in the learning process.

Futhermore, I am also good at writing stories. I am able to express descriptive writing in my own personal style to present my story. I love writing on friendship, family, science fiction and even horror sometimes. Most of my stories however relates to my experiences and observations. I love to imagine the scenes in my stories and this makes my descriptions more vivid. In my opinion, a story needs to be related, creative and original. I practice reading lots of story books to inspire myself in writing. I even have my very own personal journal to write out my opinion, emotions and criticism. In conclusion, I express myself through writing. It is what I love to do and considered interesting by most of my friends and even teachers.

What am I not so good at?

I am not so good in my grammar. There are still minor errors in my grammar and vocabulary context. I believe that I have a lot to improve and restructure. I am not really aware of the grammatical rules and regulations in constructing a sentence. For instance, I tend to make mistakes in the using the correct verb for a plural or singular noun in a sentence. I find this as my biggest threat for as a student in the English course, grammar plays a vital role. As a future educator, I need to have a wide knowledge of grammar as it is  the fundamental essence of the English language.

Moreover, I am also not that good in using the English language at a wider range. There are so many words in English that I'm not aware of it's existence and it's function. I'm not exposed enough with various words that are able to replace the simple words that I use in constructing sentences verbally or written form. Therefore, I need more exposure in new English words and learn how to utilize them in my Diploma in English course.

What practices I want to continue?

I want to continue writing for this is the practice that I enjoy doing the most. I find writing as a very strong and inspiring medium to pass a message or expressing yourself. Personally, I find motivations and inspirations through books and quotes by noble people since I started schooling. Therefore, I am able fathom the power of the writing medium and the impact it is able to give to it's readers. If we look back to history before our nation's independence, our very own people motivate each other and emit the independence spirit among the people all over "Tanah Melayu". Writing became the main source for political leaders and societies to unite the people to fight for independence. This simple historical example clearly illustrates the role of writing and I believe that this might be the practice i would like to continue and pursue to a higher and professional level.

Which area I want to improve in?

I would definitely want to improve in my weakness which is my grammar. It is important for me to improve in my grammar for my writing and speaking skills as well. I want to expose myself with the various grammar and vocabulary context to be able to construct sentences correctly. I need to work on my grammar exercises to improve. On the other hand, I would also need to use the dictionary more often than before to increase my knowledge on new English words. I believe that if I were able to improve in this minus point of mine, I would be able to improve and upgrade my English and this would directly contribute well to the course that I'm taking now. Hence, this improvement is also a strong foundation to enhance my writing skills as well.

The Things That Makes Me Proud Of Myself

In life, being proud of yourself isn't about being arrogant and thinking that we are better than others. It is about being happy, contented and satisfied with what you've accomplished or achieved in life. It is also about achieving a high level of confidence in life which nurtures ones achievement with encouragement and motivation. Looking back to my life, there are several things or moments that has make me proud until now. In my point of view, one should hold on tight to the proudest moment or things in their life as a tool to overcome problems and challenges in life. When encountering a problem, one would be able to smile and say "Come on, if i was able to achieve that, how would i not be able to solve this?". The experience that we had might not be the same level as our present problems or challengers but we can always use them for encouragement that we had accomplished something before and we are not a failure as an individual.

We humans are created in such a unique way where we have the wisdom to overcome almost anything in life if we are able to master the right techniques and gain knowledge. Therefore, that is why we humans are able to develop ourselves in every aspects as time goes by, solving problems and making our lives easier with inventions after inventions and thus improvising the inventions to become more sophisticated. As we analyse human being's achievement, a telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell years ago has been improvised into I-phone, to mention one of the latest and most demanding communication device by the people. A simple telephone which was impossible or a humor to people centuries ago has now developed to become a pocket device that gives you the world in your finger tips. All these lessons, teaches us to appreciate our very own achievement in life and use it wisely for the future achievement. Use the success from the past as a booster for the success in the future.

In my personal life, I apply this concept to enable myself to face problems and challenges in life. For example, few years ago, i was in the Boy's Brigade (as i am a girl, i joined this society under the Girl's Wing branch) and we were asked to attend a camp 5 days 4 nights near a beach at Penang. We were supposed to build our own manual tent and stay there for the 4 nights. We were also required to bring our own food ingredients such as canned food, vegetables and such and we were asked to cook on our own in groups using fire woods around the camping area. we had to cook with limited cooking utensils brought by every group members and cook from whatever sources we have. Note that we need to do this for every meal for the next 5 days. During the 5 days program, we had to face nature as one of our challenge as well, there was a heavy rain one night and we had to face some crisis in the morning. We had to work with wet fire woods and damp soil to start a fire. It seems extremely impossible but we tend not to give up.We continued our effort to start the fire for hours and tried on every method we can for we had no choice. If we were to give up, we wouldn't be able to have our meal and would fail to fulfill the criteria needed for our camping procedure. After several attempts, we finally managed to start the fire after ample of hours but we proceed to making lunch instead of breakfast and we had our meal around 3 in the afternoon. Even though we were starving, tired, and annoyed with the scenario, we were finally able to complete our cooking task and we were able to have our meal finally. This was one of the moment that i was extremely proud of. I managed to survive in a challenging environment with limited sources around and this motivates me that nothing is impossible to accomplish with perseverance.

Another proud moment that I've faced when i was a member of the Boy's Brigade was, the social life in the organisation. It was a challenge for me as i was the only Indian in that particular organisation and the rest of the members are Chinese. Therefore, I had to learn to get a long and work together with a group of people from a different race, mother tongue, and appearance (skin color especially). At first i was a little nervous because i wasn't sure if they were able to accept me or would there be racism. However, after talking, making friends and socializing, i was able find good friends there, and i end up being friends with all of them. Besides formal activities, i also joined them with other activities such as going for a movie, shopping, picnic, and even sleep overs. This was the moment where i realize that race isn't a factor at all in socializing. All you need is self-confidence to approach and interact with people from different types of background. This is one of the things that i was most proud of as i was able to blend it with different types of people that i don't even know on my first day as i was alone when i first joined the organisation. There was also another moment where I attended a youth activity alone and to my surprise the whole activity was conducted by Australians and a number of Chinese members with a few Indians as well. However, by the time the program was about to end, I made good friends with the Australians and until now, i still have a good long distance relationship with them.   All these experiences had brought a huge impact in my life as now, I'm more confident to bring up myself  in a new environment and make new friends.

Now I've grown up to become an adaptable person,  my new life as a university student wasn't frightening as it is as I am able to cope the new campus life through the experience I've been through. As i reflect back to the accomplishments I've made in the past, I am proud of the brave moves I've made without giving up and this has made me the person I am today. Since I'm aware of the accomplishments that makes me proud, I would be looking forward for more achievements and accomplishments in the future. Personally, I believe that my campus life would someday be one of the things I'm proud of myself in future to come.
